An early-morning stabbing in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood left one man dead and another injured.
Rodney Kyles Jr., of Richton Park, was described Saturday by his father as a well-mannered young man with a great interest in philosophy and history.
Kyles, a 2010 graduate of Rich Township High School, was now in his second year at Roosevelt University and was hoping to land a scholarship so he could transfer east, to Howard University, said his father, Rodney Kyles Sr.
"It's just unfortunate that I couldn't see what would become of him," said Kyles.
The younger Kyles -- who would have turned 20 next month -- was with a friend walking down the 1100 block of West Wrightwood Avenue at shortly before 1 a.m. when he was stabbed in the chest and abdomen.
Kyles' father said his son and another man had just missed a house party. Words were exchanged when the pair accidentally bumped into another man.
The elder Kyles was told his son died instantly. He leaves behind his father, his mother, two brothers and two sisters.
The 18-year-old man was stabbed in the buttocks and was taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center
No one is in custody and Belmont Area detectives are investigating. Police said they're searching for a white male who stands between 6 feet, 1 inch and 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs about 225 pounds.
He had medium-length blonde hair and a fair complexion, police said, adding that he was last seen wearing a blue shirt with buttons and blue jeans.
