Suburban Woman Killed by Semi in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-65

A west suburban woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday morning after stepping out of her vehicle on I-65 in northwest Indiana.

Nika L. Trippi, 30, pulled her 2014 Chevrolet Suburban over on the shoulder of southbound I-65 near the Fair Oaks exit in Jasper County about 10:45 a.m. to check on noise coming from the SUV, according to Indiana State Police.

After Trippi closed her driver’s side door, she was struck by a passing semi truck and thrown partially under her vehicle, police said.

Trippi, of Lombard, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The semi was described as an older model, gray Freightliner pulling a gray enclosed box trailer, police said. The truck never stopped and continued southbound on I-65.

Trippi’s mother and two children were in the Suburban when she was struck, police said. They were not hurt.

Anyone with information about the semi or the driver should call the ISP Lowell District at (219) 696-6242.
