Man Charged With Firing Pellet Gun From Apartment Balcony

A Chinese national living in Chicago was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bond after being charged with firing a high-powered pellet rifle from the balcony of his apartment.

Authorities say Jiageng Li was charged Friday with three counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm and not having a valid firearms owner identification card.

Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti told Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. that at least three residents in a building neighboring Li's called police when their homes were struck by pellets. Antonietti says outdoor furniture, walls and potted plants were among the items damage.

Antonietti said responding officers heard shots as they arrived at the scene and determined the noises were coming from Li's apartment.

Li's attorney said the man graduated from a Chicago-area college and remains in the U.S. on a work visa.
