Man Charged With Shooting Ex-Girlfriend on South Side

A man has been charged with shooting his ex-girlfriend Saturday morning near the Dearborn Homes public housing complex on the South Side.

Lorenzo Morgan, 27, faces felony counts of aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon, according to Chicago Police.

About 9:25 a.m., the 27-year-old woman was walking in a parking lot in the 2900 block of South Dearborn when Morgan tried to talk to her, police said.

A police source said Morgan and woman had a “previous romantic involvement.”

When she refused to talk to him, Morgan pulled out a handgun and opened fire, striking her in the right shoulder and left hip, police said. He ran away, but security followed him and took him into custody about 25 minutes later in the 3000 block of South State.

The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

Morgan, a North Lawndale resident, was scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday, police said.
