Woman Dies After Being Hit by Metra Train in Arlington Heights

Details on what happened or the person's condition weren't immediately known

A woman died Friday after she was hit by a Metra train in Arlington Heights and a death investigation was underway.

The rail agency said train no. 626 on the Union Pacific Northwest Line, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:31 a.m., hit a pedestrian around 8 a.m.

The train was leaving the station and all crossing gates were deployed before police say the woman entered the path of the train at Arlington Heights Road, according to police.

The woman's identity was not immediately known. She was described as an Hispanic woman between 20 and 40 years old with black curly hair and was wearing a peach shirt, black pants and grey flip-flops.

All inbound and outbound trains were stopped in the area following the incident. The Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line was accepting Metra tickets from Roselle to Chicago, except at the O'Hare Airport transfer station, Metra said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office is investigating the death. Anyone with information is being asked to call (847) 368-5300.
