More Than 1 Million Attend Chicago Pride Parade

Attendance increases significantly from 2012 event

Thousands trekked out for Chicago’s pride parade Sunday, many of the celebrating recent political feats, and others hopeful that Illinois will make a change.

Chicago Police say more than 1 million people packed Lakeview's streets for the annual Pride Parade Sunday.

The attendance is an increase over 2012's event, which clocked in at an estimated 850,000 people.

A longer parade route, which debuted at last year's parade to accommodate the increasing numbers of spectators, was also in effect this year.

The 44th annual event featured 200 floats, decorated vehicles, performers and walkers, and attracted politicians such as Gov. Pat Quinn and Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Former NFL player Wade Davis, who came out as gay a year ago, also attended the parade as an advocate for gay athletes.
