A mother and her 3-year-old son are recovering Sunday morning after they were hit while walking on the sidewalk Saturday night. NBC 5’s Lexi Sutter has the details.

A mother and her 3-year-old son were hit while walking on a sidewalk in the Bronzeville neighborhood Saturday night.

Officials say the two-car accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, near Michigan Avenue and 42 St.in Bronzeville.

A jeep turned northbound on Michigan Avenue and failed to yield to the driver of the car going southbound, authorities said. The car then swerved onto the sidewalk and hit the mother and son.

Although the drivers of both vehicles were left unharmed, the 3-year-old boy was taken to the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital with cuts and bruises on his head. Officials say he may have a broken leg but is in stable condition as of Sunday morning.
