Tens of thousands of people are sweating it out at Navy Pier Wednesday to get a front row seat for the iconic fireworks show. NBC 5’s Lisa Chavarria has the details.
Navy Pier closes its gates after reaching maximum capacity ahead of annual, iconic Fourth of July lakefront fireworks show.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, officials warned parking garages had reached maximum capacity.
Navy Pier says in years past, maximum capacity means roughly 75,000 people partaking at the event.
The only lakefront fireworks display in the area draws thousands to the edge of Lake Michigan for a 15-minute show set to patriotic music.
The venue advised watchers to arrive early, warning gates would close once it reaches crowd capacity, as it has in previous years.
Navy Pier opened to the public at 10 a.m. and will offer musical performances beginning at 5 p.m., ahead of the fireworks.
The show is slated to hit the sky at 9:30 p.m.
