Massive Fire Engulfs Multiple Homes in Suburban Northbrook

A massive fire destroyed one home and seriously damaged two others in suburban Northbrook Wednesday, and NBC 5’s Christian Farr has the latest on the blaze.

A massive blaze engulfed several homes in north suburban Northbrook early Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the 2500 block of Melanie Lane.

It appeared as though at least three homes were fully involved in the fire, which was upgraded to a two-alarm blaze.

Northbrook neighbors say they heard an explosion right before it all happened.

Sky5 video over the scene showed several crews were battling the blaze, with the residential street entirely blocked. The aftermath of the fire included a home completely destroyed and two others severely damaged.

"Nobody got hurt thank god but everything is gone,” said Michael Matan, a relative of one of the victims affected.

Northbrook Fire Chief said crews put out the "accidental" fire within an hour of arriving at the scene and luckily no deaths or injuries occurred thanks to the occupants of all three homes who were able to self-evacuate.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
