Off-Duty Cop Shoots at Would-Be Stickup Man on South Side: CPD

An off-duty Chicago police officer opened fire on a would-be robber Friday night when the alleged stickup man demanded money from the cop at gunpoint on the city’s South Side, police said.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 101000 block of South Bell Avenue in the Beverly neighborhood. A black male approached the officer, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, police said.

The officer pulled his own gun and fired at the unidentified gunman who fled the area.

Police were conducting an attempted robbery investigation Friday night.

It was unknown if anyone was injured.
