An approximately 30-minute ground stop was lifted at O'Hare International Airport on Friday evening after an aircraft bound for Switzerland became disabled on a runway.
According to the FAA's website, a ground stop went into effect at 7:54 p.m., but was lifted at around 8:30. Following the incident, departures at the airport were averaging 30 minutes due to what the FAA referred to as an "aircraft emergency."
Delays were said to be decreasing as of 9:30 p.m.
The Chicago Fire Department said it responded to an issue regarding a Swiss Air plane's brakes, but no fire was reported. The Chicago Department of Aviation referred NBC Chicago to the airline for additional information.
According to FlightRadar24, the plane, a Boeing 777, was expected to depart for Zurich at 12:10 a.m.
The incident follows a separate one on the same evening, in which a small aircraft bound for O'Hare crashed into a forest preserve in nearby Elk Grove Village.
