Orland Park Police Search for 2 Teen Suspects After Carjacking, Police Chase

According to police, one person was taken into custody following the chase, but two teen boys wearing dark hoodies remained at large, one possibly armed, police said

Orland Park police search for hours Monday for two teen suspects, one of whom may be armed, after a carjacking turned into a police chase that ended in the area.

Authorities said a carjacking in Matteson prompted a pursuit that continued to Orland Park before coming to an end near 153rd and Hilltop Drive.

According to police, one person was taken into custody following the chase, but two teen boys wearing dark hoodies remained at large, one possibly armed, police said.

Officers began canvassing the area, but by 9 a.m. Monday, Orland park Police Chief Tim McCarthy said the scene appeared "secured" and they believed the suspects had left.

"The Orland Park Police Department along with other agencies conducted an extensive search of the area. At this time it is believed that the offenders have left," the department tweeted, adding that authorities "received information" that indicated the suspects were no longer in the area.

Still, authorities advised residents to be alert and report any suspicious behavior.

Carl Sandburg High School said Monday morning the police department called a "code red" and set up a perimeter with extra officers on the road to the school.

Anyone who believes they might have seen the suspects is being asked to contact the department immediately.

An investigation remained ongoing, police said.
