As the company continues to streamline its operation, Sears Holdings Corporation announced that they will be closing over 40 more Sears and Kmart locations.
“This is part of a strategy both to address losses from unprofitable stores and to reduce the square footage of other stores because many of them are simply too big for our current needs,” Sears Chairman and CEO Eddie Lampert said in a blog post.
The closures follow on the heels of several other cutbacks made by the company this year as they attempt to return to profitability. Nearly 300 locations have been scheduled to be shuttered this year, including over 200 Kmarts and nearly 100 Sears locations throughout the United States.
In the latest round of closures, 35 Kmart locations will shut down, including one in Anderson, IN. Eight Sears locations, including three Indiana locations and the Peru, IL location, will be shuttered as part of the wave of closures.
