Parents Object to Cell Phone Towers Near Schools

A group of Tinley Park parents are fighting back against plans to erect cell phone towers near elementary schools.

AT&T Wireless applied to build a tower behind Helen Keller Elementary School and another tower near Christa McAuliffe School.

Parents complain that the towers are an eyesore and bad for property values, plus, they're concerned about the potential dangers to the schoolchildren.

"These towers are going to be so close to the kindergarten," Marie Letz said. "I know if my kids were little, I'd be putting my house up on the market."

The planning commission has already approved the towers but AT&T is looking to lease the land from Kirby School District 140.

The measure was scheduled to be voted on at the school board meeting Tuesday, but the vote was tabled.
