A person is dead and a suspect is in custody after a person fleeing a traffic stop crashed into another vehicle in suburban Oak Park Saturday.
According to police, authorities had pulled over an SUV on South Boulevard near Humphrey Avenue when the SUV driver took off. A short time later, the SUV ran a red light and slammed into a four door sedan that was traveling south on Ridgeland Avenue, according to police.
The Oak Park Fire Department took two people from the sedan to local hospitals. The driver was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center, and the passenger is in critical condition after suffering multiple fractures, police said.

The driver of the SUV attempted to flee the scene on foot after the accident, but was quickly apprehended by authorities and is in custody.
