1 in custody after person killed in I-80 shooting: New Lenox police

A person died after a shooting on Interstate 80 in suburban New Lenox at the height of evening rush hour, authorities said Monday.

According to Illinois State Police, the shooting occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on I-80 near I-355.

One person was hospitalized with what state police called “life-threatening injuries.” The individual was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the New Lenox Police Department, one person was taken into custody.

All lanes on the westbound side of the interstate were closed for approximately one hour, but lanes have since reopened following an investigation into the shooting.
