Charges have been filed against a Chicago man in connection with last month's fatal shooting of a 15-year-old in the Humboldt Park Neighborhood.
Bail was denied Friday morning for Breon Thompson, of the 3200 Block West Carroll Ave. Thompson was arrested Thursday and charged will one count of first degree murder, said News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
The victim, Darrell McKinney, was sitting in a chair attending a block party on the 900 block of North Harding on Aug. 28 when Thompson began firing shots at a rival gang member, police said.
McKinney, who Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Monique Bond said was an "exemplary student and athlete" at Orr High School, was not the intended target.
Area 4 Detectives, assisted by 11th District officers and the Gang Investigation, identified Thompson as the shooter.
