Police: Crew Robbing Green Line Riders

Two similar robberies happened within a month of eachother

Police are looking for a group of men committing strong-arm robberies on the CTA Green Line on the South Side.

In the first incident, two men confronted a 17-year-old boy on the Green Line in the 300 block of East 51st Street around 11:20 p.m. Jan. 5 and threatened to beat him up if he did not hand over his jacket and cell phone, according to an alert from Wentworth Area detectives.

The boy handed over his jacket and phone before exiting the train, police said. The robbers remained on the train.

The second incident happened about 5:25 p.m. Feb. 3 when three men approached a 23-year-old man on the Green Line in the 300 block of East 47th Street, the alert said.

One man grabbed the victim by the throat while two others emptied his pockets and took his mobile phone, police said. When the train came to a stop, the robbers pushed the man out the door and remained on the train.

The suspects are described as two or three black males between 16 and 21 years old, the alert said. They are between 5-feet-10 and 6-feet-2 and weigh between 190 and 230 pounds.

Police advise riders to be aware of their surrounds and stick to well lit areas.
