Police responding to a call of gunshots found two men fatally shot Thursday morning in Gary, Ind., where a bloody week has seen seven people murdered in seven days.
Just before noon Thursday, police received a call of shots fired in the 1100 block of Lane Street, and arrived to find a man dead in the front yard of a home, a statement from Gary police said.
Several officers then “entered the residence clearing it for public safety and discovered one more deceased male subject inside,” police said.
The Lake County coroner’s office identified the men as James Powell, 18, of the 2400 block of Whitcomb in Gary; and Raymond Washington-Whitehead, 18, of the 8600 block of Illinois Street in Merrillville, Ind.
Both suffered gunshots wounds and their deaths were ruled homicides, the coroner’s office said.
No one was in custody as of late Thursday afternoon as the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit investigates.
On Monday, just before 8 p.m., Gary police found Alec McLoud sitting in his vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at a hospital. A suspect is in custody and charges may be filed later Thursday, police said.

About 10 minutes later, two gunshot victims were found at 25th Avenue and Clark Road — a man with a gunshot to the head and a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest. The woman died at a hospital, while the man remains in serious but stable condition.
On Sunday, 15-year-old girl Daja Brookshire was shot to death while sitting in a vehicle near 7th Avenue and Adams Street in Gary, when a another car pulled up and someone opened fire.
Last Thursday, 21-year-old David Pippen and 24-year-old Terrence Sallee II were shot in a drive-by outside the Delaney Community public housing complex in the 2100 block of Polk Street about 10 p.m. The older man was dead at the scene, and Pippen died Monday at Stroger Hospital.
