Police Officers Rescue Woman From Smoking Vehicle After Crash

Chicago police officers rescued a woman from a smoking car after a crash early Wednesday morning left her unable to escape. 

The 27-year-old woman was traveling northbound in the 1300 block of South Kedzie when her 2004 Jeep Cherokee veered to the right and struck a light pole. Officers found her underneath the dashboard of the vehicle.

The officers managed to pull the woman from the vehicle just has the hood began to smoke and ultimately catch fire, police said. 

The woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

One officer suffered a minor injury to his hand in the incident.
