Portillo’s limited-edition Lemon Cake will now be available through the end of summer.
While the cake was supposed to leave the restuarant chain this month, the dessert is back by popular demand and staying through Aug. 30 thanks to a post on Reddit.
Portillo’s is crediting Reddit user Ben with the return of the Lemon Cake special. Ben put up a $300 bounty to locate the cake recipe. His Reddit post quickly gained attention.
“I've been searching for a substitute ever since, I've gone through dozens of cake and frosting recipes, had someone ask Dick Portillo about lemon cake at one of their grand openings, and had no success,” Ben wrote.” If you can find me the exact recipe, with instructions, or find me a place that makes an exact copy I will pay you $300.”
He offered another $30 for anyone with information on what happened to the lemon cake. Instead, Ben will be able to enjoy the cake in-store for another month.
Portillo’s lemon cake cost $3.09 for a slice and $19.49 for the whole cake.
