An employee of a Maywood high school is accused of a sexual encounter with a student, authorities said Tuesday.
Though it's not clear what the employee does at Proviso East High School, Cook County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Frank Bilecki told the Chicago Tribune the person was not involved in teaching, coaching or administration of the students.
No charges have been filed.
A source involved in the case said the student is an adult and the incident occurred during school hours in February, according to the Tribune.
Mary Fergus, spokeswoman with the Illinois State Board of Education, told the Tribune state law requiring professionals to report cases of child abuse or neglect to the Department of Children and Family Services does not apply in this situation because the student is an adult.
Board members are set to join with local authorities to further inspect the case.
