With Loyola set to take on Nevada in the Sweet 16, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is placing a friendly wager on the Ramblers.
Loyola, back in the tournament’s Round of 16 for the first time since 1985, will battle the Wolf Pack on Thursday night in Atlanta in hopes of reaching the Elite Eight for the first time since they won the national championship in 1963.
If the Ramblers win and advance to Saturday’s Elite Eight showdown with either Kentucky or Kansas State, Emanuel will win 16 dozen doughnuts from Dat Donut in the city’s Chatham neighborhood, according to a press release.
If Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve wins the bet, then Emanuel will send her 16 dozen doughnuts from DoughBoys Donuts in Reno.
“The Loyola Ramblers have electrified Chicago, and fans across the city are looking forward to cheering on Simeon High School’s Donte Ingram, Whitney Young’s Lucas Williamson and the entire team tomorrow night,” Emanuel said.
Tip-off for the game is scheduled at 6:07 p.m.
