Overnight and morning storms dumped several inches of rain on parts of the Chicago area, causing intense flooding that forced drivers out of their vehicles and prompted numerous rescue efforts.
Though rainfall continued throughout the morning for some suburbs, with a Flash Flood Warning in effect through the afternoon, early reports indicated more than 5 inches of rain had fallen by 3:30 a.m.
