One person was injured in a CTA train derailment on the Red Line Saturday afternoon that temporarily caused suspension of all Red Line trains on the North Side.
The train derailed north of the Granville stop around 2 p.m. just after it left the station, according to Chicago fire officials. All riders were evacuated, and one person was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital with a shoulder injury.
"All of a sudden, the train stopped and we were stuck there for like 20 to 30 minutes," said Jose Cabello, who was on the train when it derailed. "They didn't tell us anything about it."
Another train just south of the Granville station was also forced to stop between stations. In total, more than 350 people were evacuated from both trains.
Immediately following the derailment, all Red Line train service between Howard and Belmont was suspended.
As of 4:50 p.m., service had returned to Addison and Belmont as well as to all stops between Howard and Loyola. Shuttle service was provided between Addison and Granville. All service was expected to return to normal by 6 p.m.
CTA officials also suggested commuters use the 36, 147 and 151 buses as alternatives.
