River Oaks Center mall in south suburban Calumet City was shut down Monday evening after shots were fired inside the shopping center, police said.
The incident was reported at 6:30 p.m., according to Calumet City Police Department Chief Kevin Kolosh. Officers located evidence that shots were fired at the mall, but no victims were found, authorities said.
The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers, the police chief added.
Detectives were combing through evidence late Monday in hope of learning information about a potential suspect.
There was no existing danger to the public, police emphasized.
