Here's Every Insane Garnish Crammed Into This Crystal Lake Mega Bloody Mary

"It’s not meant for one person. It’s meant for four," competitive eater Juan Rodriguez said of the mega bloody Mary. "That just tells me it can be done. No one has had the nerve to try."

A couple is taking on a new challenge: a gigantic Bloody Mary. NBC 5’s Anayeli Ruiz spoke to them as they prepare for their epic quest.

A competitive eating couple from Chicago is taking on quite a challenge this weekend.

They are ranked as some of the top eaters in the United States, but can they take on a bloody Mary challenge?

Juan Rodriguez and his girlfriend, Sarah Reinecke, are professional eaters.

"It got to the point that I wasn’t so bad, packing down so much food. They encouraged me to enter the contest," Reinecke said. "Turns out I wasn’t so bad."

The couple travels all over the country and compete by eating large amounts of food in short periods of time. You might have seen them at the Fourth of July Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

"People would always call me out, 'I bet you can’t do this,'" Rodriguez said. "'I bet you can’t do that.' I love a challenge. I rarely say no."

They both made the top 50 competitive eaters list in the U.S. But the training for these competitions isn't easy. Part of the preparation for a big completion is hitting the gym daily.

"We do tons of high-volume food like vegetables and broccoli, and we drink tons and tons of water," Reinecke said.

Rodriguez said he also incorporates water training to expand his stomach.

"You drink two gallons as fast as possible, you keep increasing. It’s easier on your stomach," he said.

This weekend the eaters will take on a different challenge.

They’re going to Crystal Lake’s Rib House to try and eat a mega bloody Mary.

And they’re ready for it.

"It’s not meant for one person. It’s meant for four," Rodriguez said. "That just tells me it can be done. No one has had the nerve to try. And I’m that idiot. Luckily I have another one with me."
