Chicago police shot a man armed with a knife after he repeatedly ignored commands to drop the weapon, and JC Navarrete has the latest details.

Chicago police shot a man armed with a knife after he repeatedly ignored commands to drop the weapon, according to a statement.

According to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and the Chicago Police Department, the shooting occurred in the first block of East Hubbard on Monday afternoon.

Chicago police officers observed what they called a "wanted suspect" in the first block of West Hubbard at approximately 2:23 p.m. Monday.

The suspect, armed with a knife, fled from officers and entered a hotel, according to eyewitnesses.

Multiple officers attempted to subdue the suspect with Tasers, and the suspect continued to ignore officers' commands to drop the knife, according to police.

The suspect then moved toward the officers while holding the knife, and two officers fired shots, striking him in the upper body.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, police said.

A Chicago police spokesman told NBC Chicago that two police officers were taken to an area hospital for observation, in accordance with department policy.

State Street was closed in both directions between Kinzie and Illinois, with the CTA rerouting multiple buses in the area, according to Total Traffic.
