Police are warning cyclists on the South Side to be cautious after several robberies were reported on the Lakefront Trail in April.
In each incident, cyclists were pulled off their bikes from behind and robbed, according to a community alert from Chicago police. No weapons were used.
The incidents occurred:
- Between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., April 3 and 4 in the 3700 block of South Lake Shore Drive in Kenwood; and
- 8:30 p.m., April 9 in the 3500 block of South Lake Shore Drive in Oakland.
Police said one person or a group of three people may be involved. The robber in one incident was described as a teenage boy between 13 and 15 years old, 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-5 and 120 and 130 pounds, police said.
The other three robbers were described as: a male between 14 and 19 years old, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 150 pounds, with long braids and wearing a green jacket; a male between 14 and 17 years old wearing black clothing; and a male between 14 and 17 years old wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying a gray handbag.
