A shelter-in-place alert enacted following a deadly shooting in suburban Bolingbrook was lifted on Monday afternoon after the suspect was apprehended by authorities, police said.
Bolingbrook police, in a news release, said the person suspected in a shooting in the 300 block of Walnut Circle had been taken into custody as of 5:17 p.m. The victim, Devon D. Davis, 33, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, police stated.
Authorities had yet to release information on the suspect, with Bolingbrook police saying they were working with the Will County State's Attorney's office on formal charges.
The Darien Police Department at 4:06 p.m. posted on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, that the offender wanted in a shooting in Bolingbrook was taken into custody in Will County. A lockdown at Bolingbrook schools, which was enacted as a result of the search, was lifted at around the same time.
Valley View Community School District 365-U at 4:05 p.m. posted on X, saying the "Secure & Teach” had been lifted at area schools. Dismissal was underway at the time, and bus delays of around 90 minutes were said to be expected.
Residents were initially advised to shelter in place and schools were placed on lockdown due to the search for the shooting suspect, according to authorities.

Earlier that afternoon, the Bolingbrook Police Department urged residents to avoid the area of Boughton Road and Route 53 as officers attempted to locate a suspect in a shooting. At 2:46 p.m., Valley View Community School District 365-U initially posted on X, alerting residents about reports of gunfire and an at-large suspect in the area of Brooks Middle School.

The shooting in question, according to Bolingbrook police, occurred at around 1:54 p.m. in the 300 block of Walnut Circle. Officers arrived at a home and located a man who had been shot, police said. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, and his condition remained unknown Monday afternoon.
The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to officers arriving, authorities stated.
Police said early indications were that the shooting was the result of a family argument and not a random act.
