South Shore Line Trains Impacted by Cold, Snow in Indiana

If you’re planning on using the Metra South Shore Line for New Year’s Day, a special service announcement could impact your travel itinerary.

According to the agency, passengers on the far east side of the line, which travels from Millennium Station in Chicago all the way to South Bend Airport in Indiana, will be bussed between the Michigan City and South Bend Airport stops on New Year’s Day and part of Jan. 2 because of anticipated snowfall and extremely cold temperatures.

Service at the Hudson Lake stop will also be suspended, according to the agency, and trains 701 and 703 travelling eastbound will be cancelled.

The anticipated closure will last through Train 14’s route on Jan. 2.

Parts of Indiana will be impacted by lake-effect snow this weekend, and temperatures in South Bend are forecasted to reach just eight degrees on Monday and four degrees on Tuesday, with wind chills dropping to at least 20 degrees below zero.
