No Sex Assault Charges Against Castro

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro will not be charged in connection with sexual assault allegations lobbed against him last fall.

"The State’s Attorney’s office in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department conducted a comprehensive review and investigation and as a result found insufficient evidence to bring forth criminal charges," state’s attorney spokeswoman Sally Daly said.

Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said he was glad the issue is resolved and that Castro can keep his focus on baseball. 

Castro made his first public comments about the allegations in February, a month after meeting with Chicago police officials to explain his side of the story.

A 23-year-old woman said she met Castro and his entourage at the Club Crescendo last September. The group then left the club and went to Castro’s downtown condominium on State Street, according to the woman. It’s there she alleges the now 22-year-old Castro sexually assaulted her.
 
Castro was chosen to the All-Star team last year in his first full major league season when he batted .307 and led the National League with 207 hits. The young star made his major league debut in May 2010. Chicago signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2006.
