Stephen Colbert Getting NU Honorary Degree

The host of “The Colbert Report" is one of four recipients of the award from his alma mater

How's this for a triumph of truthiness? Stephen Colbert landed an honorary degree from his alma mater.

The satirical host of Comedy Central's “The Colbert Report" joins three other recipients of the award from Northwestern University, the school announced Thursday. They include: Barbara H. Liskov, an MIT professor and associate provost; Jessye Norman, an acclaimed opera performer; and William A. Schabas, a human rights law professor from the University of Ireland Galway.

Colbert graduated in 1986 from Northwestern’s School of Communication, where he had his sights set on acting but fell in love with improv.

He went on to tour with Second City and eventually landed on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." His book, "I Am America (And So Can You!),” spent 29 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list.

All four recipients will be awarded their degrees during the Northwestern's June 17 commencement.
