A new study says Illinois ranks in the top 20 states to raise a family.
Financial site WalletHub compared all 50 states based on 42 key indicators of family-friendliness—health, safety, median family salary, housing affordability, “family fun,” education and more.
The study also took the states’ population into account to avoid overcompensating for minor differences across cities.
Illinois came in 15th place, with a total of 55.41 points out of a total 100, according to WalletHub. While Illinois didn't rank in the top five of any of the core metrics, a few Midwestern states earned high marks.
Minnesota ranked second overall, just behind Massachusetts, while Wisconsin took sixth place and Iowa came in eighth.
