A suspect was killed in a shootout with police in Aurora following a police pursuit after reports of shots fired in Plano, according to authorities.
Police said at approximately 6:45 p.m. Friday, Kendall County Sheriff's deputies assisted Plano police for a report of a possible home invasion with shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street.
Responding officers located a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident, and engaged in a pursuit, officials said. During the chase, police learned a gunshot victim was located at the residence on Pratt Street. That person, identified as Russell Novak, 70, died as a result of injuries he sustained, police said.
The pursuit later ended near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Eola Road in Aurora, where police said the suspect exited the car armed with a gun and pointed the weapon at a sheriff's deputy. The deputy and a Plano police officer then opened fire, authorities said.
The suspect was struck and transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
An autopsy on Novak, who died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, was set to take place Monday. Information about a potential motive remains under clear.
The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation, authorities said.
