A woman drove her SUV about 35 feet into a suburban drug store Friday night before damaging a parked police squad car in the parking lot, authorities said.
The crash occurred in Zion about 9 p.m. near Route 173 and Green Bay Road. The driver, who police said smashed into a CVS, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. No one else was injured, Zion Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Eric Troy said.
A witness saw the crash and ran into the store to get everyone out safely as the fire alarm blared.
“Everybody had gotten out safely,” Troy said.
The building will be closed for “some time” due to the damage, he added.
Asked how the car got so far into the CVS, Troy said “that’s a question we’re still trying to (answer) ourselves,” and added that a police investigation should offer more answers at a later date.
It was unclear what caused the crash.
