A tornado warning was issued in northwest Indiana and most Chicago-area counties saw severe thunderstorm warnings on an eventful Sunday afternoon.

One tornado warning was issued for northern Newton County and southeastern Lake County in Indiana, but was allowed to expire at 3 p.m. There were no immediate reports of tornadoes that touched down within the storm, according to trained weather spotters.

An earlier tornado watch has been canceled across northern Illinois and parts of northwest Indiana, according to the National Weather Service.

A ground stop remains in effect at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, with flights held at their originating airports, according to the FAA.

As the storms move out, temperatures are expected to plummet this evening into the overnight hours, creating a wintry start to the work week, with highs only in the mid 40s tomorrow.

That brisk weather will persist through Tuesday ahead of another chance of severe storms on Wednesday as temperatures rebound to the high 60s.
