Two Men Shot, Killed in Front of South Austin Church

Two men were shot and killed outside of a church in Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood on Sunday morning, police said.

The shooting took place in front of the Friendship Baptist Church at 5200 West Jackson Blvd. at approximately 11:19 a.m. According to witnesses, the two men were killed while going up the steps of the church just as service was beginning.

According to police, two people approached the duo on foot in front of the church. One of the people then fired shots, striking both men.

A 46-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and was transported to Mt. Sinai, where he was pronounced dead. A 34-year-old man, the target of the shooting according to police, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

The shooter got into a gray SUV and fled south, according to police.

According to witnesses, one of the victims was an usher at the church.

No one is in custody, and police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
