U2 Builds Massive Stage at Soldier Field

Soldier Field is the first U.S. stop on U2‘s “U2360 Tour,” which features a 360-degree round stage and a cylindrical video screen.

World-renowned Irish rockers U2 swept through NBC Tower in Chicago today as they promoted the second leg of their U2360 world tour at Soldier Field.

Frontman Bono and guitarist The Edge dropped by for an interview on 93WXRT.

The frontman and his scruffy lead guitarist swept through the NBC Tower lobby with a large entourage, while female officeworkers giggled and men craned their necks while pretending to be uninterested.

The rock quartet opens the second leg of their tour Saturday on a circular stage beneath a 90-foot-tall canopy that looks not unlike the pronged and sinewy mandible of The Predator, or an overlarge aloe plant.

The immense structure took four days to build and will accommodate a 150-foot pylon and a 54-ton cylindrical video screen to light up the stadium.

Saturday's show is sold out. Tickets, ranging from $30 to $250, are available from Live Nation.

Indie rockers Snow Patrol open.
