Chicago Police arrested a suspect Friday morning for allegedly fatally shooting his ex-wife inside a parking garage at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center.
Chicago police arrested a suspect Friday morning for allegedly fatally shooting his ex-wife inside a parking garage at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center.
UIC spokesman Mark Rosati confirmed Earl Roberts, 47, a housekeeper at the hospital and person of interest in the case, was taken into custody.
The UIC medical center was on lockdown Friday morning after a woman was discovered shot to death in the parking garage at 1740 W. Taylor. Police said a man shot and killed her just before midnight Thursday in the garage.
The victim later was identified as Angela Bonds-Roberts, 48, of 3408 S. Harlem. She also was employed at the hospital.
The parking complex was searched "roof to basement" with no sign of the suspect, police said, and an all-clear was issued for the medical center. Police believed Roberts ran away from the scene.
A police officer recognized him around 6:30 a.m., Rosati said, and Roberts he was arrested at 13th Street and Hoyne after a chase. A weapon was found near the 2200 block of 13th Street.
Rosati thanked police for all their help and offered the center's "deepest sympathy to the family of the victim."
