Up to 8 People Involved in NYE Rape: Cops

Police plan to execute search warrants

Chicago Police are expanding the investigation into the brutal beating and rape of a Highland Park teen on New Year’s Eve.

Officers are trying to figure out if as many as eight people participated in the attack in Logan Square. It’s unclear what their roles may have been, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The victim’s father expressed gratitude for support from his community, his daughter’s school district and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his daughter was treated. He called the outpouring overwhelming.

The 18-year-old suburban girl came into the city to attend a concert at Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., Saturday night. She went into a nearby restaurant where she left with a group of people, police said.

She was found unconscious lying on a lawn a short distance away.

Police are waiting for DNA results from a state crime lab. They also plan to look through surveillance video in the area of the attack, examine witnesses’ accounts and execute search warrants, the paper reports.

Officers questioned three juveniles in the case but released them without charges Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Harrison Area detectives at 312-746-8252.
