Vigil Held for Woman Missing After Jumping Into Lake Michigan

The woman disappeared Friday after jumping into the lake with two friends

A 24-year-old woman disappeared Friday after jumping into Lake Michigan, and on Sunday family and friends gathered to hold a vigil near the location where she vanished. NBC 5’s Christian Farr has the latest.

A vigil was held along North Avenue Beach Sunday afternoon as family and friends gathered to express hope for a miracle after the disappearance of 24-year-old Eddisa Concepcion.

Concepcion, a UIC graduate, disappeared after jumping into Lake Michigan early Friday morning. Facing high waves and cold temperatures, Chicago fire and police dive teams were unable to enter the water to search for her, and helicopter searches, with the help of the United States Coast Guard, have thus far been unsuccessful.

Marine Units continued that search for Concepcion on Sunday, but she remains missing.

Two other men who jumped into the water with Concepcion were able to escape. One man got out of the water on his own, and the other was rescued and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
