Washington Park Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, at Least 7 Others Hurt, Police Say

Chicago police remain on the scene of a mass shooting at Washington Park Tuesday night. NBC 5’s Alex Maragos has the story.

A mass shooting at Chicago's Washington Park left two person dead and at least seven others injured Tuesday night, authorities said.

Chicago police say a ShotSpotter alert was triggered at approximately 7:45 p.m. While an investigation remains in its early stages, a witness said they heard more than two dozen shots erupt at that time.

Two groups were in the park at the time of the shooting, and police say an altercation took place that resulted in an eruption of gunfire.

Police say that a total of seven individuals were struck by gunfire, with one dying from their injuries.

No immediate update was given on the condition of the remaining victims in the shooting.

According to Chicago Fire Department officials, at least three individuals were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. The current condition of those victims remains unclear at this time.

Police are offering a $15,000 reward for information in connection with the shooting. Tipsters can call 833-408-0069, and can remain anonymous.
