A trip to the mall turned violent for a woman who had her purse stolen in the parking lot of Skokie’s Orchard Place market.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon when the woman was walking to her car from the Ulta Beauty shop at the mall.
A red car, driven by two men, drove up alongside the woman, and the occupant in the passenger side of the vehicle reached through the window and grabbed the woman’s purse. She was dragged several feet before the car sped off.
“I saw a red car pulling away and she was rolling on the pavement,” witness David Drury said. “He reached out and grabbed her through the passenger side window.”
Drury told NBC 5 that he chased after the car, which escaped by jumping a median and driving into oncoming traffic on Skokie Blvd. He got a good look at the occupants of the car, but was unable to stop them from getting away.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, said that her money and cellphone were in the purse that was stolen. She had scrapes on her hands and knees, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
Skokie Police are still investigating the case, and no one is in custody.
