McFadden had suffered from blood clots before the Boston Marathon and competed just a few weeks after having surgery. Though she notched a new personal best, she finished in fourth place after being undefeated in Boston since 2013.
The 2017 Chicago race was a tight one for McFadden, who beat out her competition in the final climb.
"It was coming down to a sprint race but you know the last climb really kind of saves me because I love to climb," McFadden said. [[449325413, C]]
The hometown favorite says her health is improving and she was using the marathon as part of her excercise routine.
