An apparent murder suicide that left a man, his girlfriend and her son dead brought investigators in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to a home draped in Christmas lights in a quiet neighborhood overnight.
Two Montgomery County Coroner's Office vehicles arrived to a home along Diamond Street near Union Street in Hatfield after a reported shooting around 11:35 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators later said a man, identified as 48-year-old Paul Marshall, shot and killed his live-in girlfriend 48-year-old Gretchen Viglione as well as her son 28-year-old Robert Peploe with a semi-automatic rifle. He then turned the weapon on himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, investigators said.
Marshall's 27-year-old daughter and 4-year-old grandchild were also inside the home at the time of the shooting but weren't hurt, investigators said.
Hatfield and county investigators spent the early hours of Monday searching for clues as they closed roads in the area.
Neighbors said violence like this rarely happens in the normally quiet neighborhood.
"Unbelievable," said Lynne Barnes. "This is a quiet neighborhood. We don't have stuff like this. Nothing. No domestic disputes."
