So maybe Joaquin Phoenix isn't quite ready to go back to work just yet.
Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper are signing on to star in "Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," reported Variety. Cooper will be taking the role of Henry Sturges for which Phoenix had been in negotiations, while Mackie is believed to be playing a character named Will, who is essentially Abe's vampire-killing sidekick.
The title role of our 16th president was awarded two weeks ago to Benjamin Walker, most recently seen playing our seventh president in the Broadway musical "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson."
In the book, Sturges saves young Lincoln from a vampire attack, nurses him back to health and teaches him how to combat the evil scourge of bloodsuckers terrorizing America.
The film, which is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted") and produced by Tim Burton, is based on Seth Grahame-Smith's novel, which he'll be adapting himself.
Cooper, so good in both "History Boys" and "An Education," can next be seen in "The Devil's Double," about the man forced to be Uday Hussein's stand-in, though the film is still awaiting a release date. Mackie's "The Adjustment Bureau," with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, comes out March 4.
