It seems to have become all the rage on popular networking sites such as Facebook and Twitpics: people posting pictures of themselves puckering up instead of smiling for the camera. We are guilty of it ourselves.
Think “Blue Steel” from Zoolander.
So here comes the backlash: an entire blog has been dedicated to the “duckface” phenomenon called Antiduckface.com.
The site, which is run by a few self-proclaimed “jerks” from Los Angeles, mocks how most people look ridiculous while making fishy faces at the camera.
Antiduckface.com describes the fad as such:
“You know that face you make when you’re about to take that perfect shot of yourself for Myspace?
You know, the one where you push your mouth out in that weird combination of a pout and a kissy face that make it look like you’ve got big pouty lips and model quality cheekbones?
It’s called ‘duckface.’ Stop doing it. It isn’t sexy. You look stupid. Really, really stupid.“
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
These snarky, cooler-than-thou blogs are themselves becoming a trend with other similar “Look at these ridiculous people” sites such as Look at this F-ing Hipster, Asleep On the Subway and People of Wal-mart all gaining popularity.
