The hockey player who was partially paralyzed during the women's Winter Classic is expected to sue both the National Hockey League and the New England Patriots, according to the New York Post.
Denna Laing of the Boston Pride suffered a significant spinal injury when she fell into the boards Dec. 31 during a game between the Pride and the Montreal Canadiennes.
The 24-year-old Laing — a native of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and two-year captain at Princeton University — was carried off the ice on a stretcher. Her parents say she "has limited movement of her arms and no feeling in her legs."
All players signed a liability waiver before the game at Patriots-owned Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, but the agreement was based on playable ice conditions, according to the paper. The Post also reports the ice was soft during the game.
Laing posted on Facebook and Twitter on Monday, thanking fans for their "unwavering" support and appearing in a video wearing a neck brace.
Her family has not returned calls from the Post. The NHL declined to comment to the newspaper.
