Quinn Disagrees With Daley on Gang Summit

Gov. Pat Quinn Wednesday said he did not support Chicago Police Supt. Jodi Weis' decision to meet privately with West Side gang members two weeks previous.

"I don't think those are the ones you want to be talking to," Quinn said.

Quinn said a better way to address violence is to go after guns on the streets.

Mayor Daley recently defended Weis' approach, saying that it's important for there to be a dialogue between gang leaders, the community and the police.

Quinn then pivoted to renewing his criticism of his opponent, State Sen. Bill Brady, for not doing more to oppose assault weapons. Quinn has no legislative record on guns, while Brady has voted several times against restricting gun purchases. Brady has called Quinn's criticisms a "distortion" of Brady's voting record.
